Ethereum maintained a price level of $2,445 during Thursday’s trading session. The asset temporarily slipped beneath the critical $2,400 threshold earlier in the day.

Bitcoin hovered around $76,845 in concurrent trading. XRP changed hands near $1.31, and Solana approached the $100.88 mark.
These price movements emerged during a turbulent period for digital asset markets. Restrictive central bank policy, significant fund redemptions, and legislative obstacles in the nation’s capital contributed to the volatility.
ETH reached a session low of $2,372 before purchasing interest reemerged. The influx of buying activity pushed the cryptocurrency back above the $2,400 threshold.
However, institutional capital continues exiting these markets. Elevated financing costs remain a challenge to the sustainability of any price recovery.
Central Bank Policy Shift Creates Headwinds
The Federal Open Market Committee implemented a 25 basis point rate adjustment on Wednesday. Committee members voted unanimously in favor.
The updated federal funds target range now stands between 3.75% and 4.00%. This represents the first upward rate adjustment since 2023.
Committee members justified the decision by pointing to persistent inflation pressures, robust consumer expenditure, and consistent job market expansion. Broad-based business capital expenditure was also mentioned as a factor.
Elevated interest rates typically create downward pressure on digital assets like Ethereum. Increased yields on government bonds diminish appetite for volatile investments, while stricter credit conditions constrain speculative market activity.
The central bank indicated that subsequent policy adjustments would be determined by incoming inflation metrics and employment statistics throughout the remainder of the year.
Legislative developments compounded market uncertainty. The Senate failed to advance a procedural measure on the CLARITY Act, with the vote falling short at 49–50 versus the required 60-vote threshold.
Democratic lawmakers cited outstanding ethics questions as their primary objection. Three Republican senators also opposed the procedural motion.
Institutional Fund Redemptions Persist
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds registered $296 million in net capital outflows on September 16. Spot Ethereum investment products experienced an additional $224 million in redemptions.
Total withdrawals across both cryptocurrency categories approached $520 million for the trading day. The exodus coincided closely with the Federal Reserve’s policy announcement.
BlackRock’s ETHA product recorded the most substantial individual outflow among Ethereum funds, shedding $110 million. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT represented a notable outlier, attracting $3.47 million in fresh inflows.
Ongoing Ethereum redemption activity may restrict upside price potential, despite the asset’s ability to maintain the $2,400 support level.
The $2,400 price point continues serving as the critical dividing line between consolidation and additional downside for Ethereum. A breach below this threshold could expose $2,372, followed by $2,350.
Sustained trading above $2,400 would facilitate a potential advance toward resistance between $2,450 and $2,500.
The Relative Strength Index currently registers near 53.7, indicating neutral territory without overbought conditions. The MACD indicator stands at 6.31, suggesting modest positive momentum with a mild bullish signal in the near term.
