Shares of Iovance Biotherapeutics skyrocketed more than 40% during Thursday’s trading session, reaching a new 52-week peak after the biotechnology firm delivered second-quarter 2026 financial results that significantly exceeded Wall Street’s projections.
Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc., IOVA
The company reported quarterly product revenue of $99.3 million, a substantial increase from the $59.9 million recorded during the same period in 2025. This figure surpassed analyst consensus estimates by $11.5 million.
Amtagvi, the company’s FDA-cleared cellular therapy designed for treating advanced melanoma, accounted for nearly all of this revenue growth. The therapy generated approximately $91 million in domestic sales, representing a 40% sequential increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.
The quarter’s gross margin reached 56% when excluding depreciation and amortization. Company leadership indicated expectations for this metric to continue its upward trajectory as manufacturing processes become more refined.
The firm posted a net loss of $47.3 million during the quarter, representing approximately a 58% reduction compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Research and development expenditures declined roughly 6% quarter-over-quarter, marking the fourth straight quarter of enhanced operational efficiency.
As of June 30, 2026, the company maintained cash and investment holdings of approximately $304 million, providing substantial financial flexibility.
Revenue Outlook Being Reassessed
Interim Chief Executive Officer Frederick Vogt announced that the organization is currently reevaluating its 2026 annual revenue guidance range of $350 million to $370 million. The company plans to provide an updated forecast during the third quarter.
“Given our second-quarter results and robust demand patterns, we are reassessing our 2026 revenue guidance that was previously communicated,” Vogt stated.
The market’s enthusiastic response appears driven by this guidance reassessment signal rather than an immediate formal increase. Market participants seem to be anticipating a substantial upward revision to the forecast.
Unaided awareness of Amtagvi among physicians has increased nearly threefold compared to the previous year, bolstered by an enhanced marketing initiative and an enlarged commercial team.
The authorized treatment center (ATC) infrastructure currently encompasses more than 95 facilities spanning the United States, Canada, and Australia. Iovance projects having at least 110 operational ATCs by year-end 2026, with community-based centers representing roughly one-third of this footprint.
Clinical Development and Global Growth
On the development front, the FDA recently awarded Fast Track Designation to lifileucel for soft tissue sarcomas, specifically including undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma and dedifferentiated liposarcoma.
The organization is advancing several registrational studies spanning non-small cell lung cancer, various sarcoma types, endometrial cancer, and next-generation tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) candidates.
On the international front, Amtagvi secured regulatory approval from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The United Kingdom Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) has been resubmitted and is currently undergoing expedited review by the MHRA. Switzerland approval is anticipated during the first half of 2027, with EU MAA resubmission remaining on schedule for the same timeframe.
Manufacturing efficiency for Amtagvi has improved significantly, with turnaround times now consistently at 31 days or less, enabled by centralized large-scale commercial production capabilities.
