Palantir Technologies Inc., PLTR
Quarterly revenue reached $1.94 billion, marking a 92.8% increase from the same period last year and significantly surpassing the Wall Street estimate of $1.81 billion. The company’s adjusted earnings per share of $0.41 topped the $0.34 consensus forecast by $0.07, a substantial improvement from the $0.16 reported in the year-ago quarter.
Company leadership also upgraded its full-year forecast, providing additional momentum for the stock’s upward trajectory.
Following a closing price of $171.04 in the previous session, this rally contributed approximately $20 billion to Palantir’s substantial $429 billion market capitalization.
Artificial Intelligence Platform Powers Expansion
At the heart of these impressive figures is Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP). Industry analysts identify this technology as the catalyst propelling the company’s evolution beyond its conventional government contracting business model.
Corporate adoption continues to accelerate, with commercial sector interest gaining traction alongside robust government AI investment. Piper Sandler maintains an “overweight” stance with a $230 price objective. DA Davidson increased its target from $175 to $200 with a “buy” recommendation. Cantor Fitzgerald launched coverage with an “overweight” designation, all in response to the August 4 earnings announcement.
Goldman Sachs maintained its “neutral” position while establishing a $204 price objective. Benchmark preserved its “hold” recommendation. The overall Wall Street consensus stands at “Moderate Buy” with a mean target of $192.19, supported by two Strong Buy recommendations, 20 Buy ratings, 11 Hold positions, and three Sell ratings.
Premium Valuation and Executive Share Sales Create Uncertainty
Despite the positive momentum, concerns remain. Palantir currently trades at approximately 153 times earnings, a premium multiple that offers minimal margin for execution missteps. Prominent short seller Michael Burry has maintained his pessimistic stance on the stock, while ARK Invest has been reducing exposure during the recent advance.
Executive selling activity has been significant as well. Over the last 90 days, company insiders have disposed of more than 1.15 million shares totaling roughly $156 million. This includes a transaction by insider Shyam Sankar, who sold 35,000 shares on August 6 at $155.70 each.
Conversely, institutional investor activity tells a more optimistic story. Cache Advisors increased its position by 30.4% during Q2, acquiring 21,018 additional shares to bring its total holdings to 90,096 shares valued at approximately $10.5 million. Norges Bank established a new position exceeding $5.1 billion. State Street and Arrowstreet Capital have similarly increased their stakes. Institutional ownership now represents 45.65% of outstanding shares.
The stock’s 50-day moving average stands at $133.83, while its 200-day moving average is positioned at $139.92, both considerably below the current trading price. Over the past 52 weeks, shares have traded in a range between $106.37 and $207.52.
Wall Street forecasts full-year earnings per share of $1.26 for the ongoing fiscal year.
