Shares of Robinhood and Coinbase experienced significant upward momentum Thursday following President Donald Trump’s public endorsement of the Clarity Act, proposed legislation designed to classify Bitcoin and other digital currencies as commodities instead of securities.
During pre-market hours, Robinhood advanced 5%, momentarily reaching $100.60. Coinbase experienced a 9.6% surge in morning trading, building on the previous day’s 10% increase. Strategy, a prominent Bitcoin holder, similarly posted 5% gains.
The rally followed Trump’s August 19 meeting with cryptocurrency sector leaders at the White House, where he openly supported the bill. A procedural vote on the Clarity Act is scheduled for September 15.
Bitcoin’s value increased 11% across a 24-hour period, reaching $71,755—its most elevated level since early June, per Dow Jones Market Data.
CEO Tenev Champions Tokenization Framework
Robinhood’s stock performance received additional momentum from its chief executive. On August 18, Vlad Tenev released an influential article urging U.S. regulatory bodies to establish comprehensive guidelines for tokenized securities.
Tenev warned that America faces the prospect of ceding next-generation financial infrastructure development to international rivals. He characterized the present environment as the opening phase of a worldwide tokenization boom.
The CEO praised the Clarity Act as an important milestone in establishing robust cryptocurrency foundations domestically.
Blockchain-based tokenized equity transactions have already hit $9 billion in 2026, reflecting growth exceeding 800% compared to the start of the year. This expansion has strengthened Robinhood’s positioning as a frontrunner in the emerging sector.
Sector Had Faced Extended Downturn
Broader equity markets provided minimal support for these advances. The S&P 500 remained essentially unchanged, while the Nasdaq posted marginal gains. Robinhood and Coinbase rallied on industry-specific catalysts.
Cryptocurrency-related equities had endured a difficult stretch throughout 2026. Macroeconomic headwinds, stalled regulatory progress, and diminishing cryptocurrency ETF demand pressured the segment.
As of Wednesday’s closing bell, Coinbase had declined 29% year-to-date. Strategy had dropped 31%. Robinhood showed a 15% decrease.
Even with Thursday’s rally, Robinhood trades considerably below its 52-week peak of $153.86.
Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy share common regulatory exposure, meaning advancement in U.S. cryptocurrency policy typically benefits all three simultaneously.
The Treasury Department also took steps Wednesday to strengthen bond market confidence, contributing to the optimistic sentiment that fueled Bitcoin’s resurgence.
The September 15 Clarity Act procedural vote represents the sector’s next critical inflection point.
