SK Hynix (SKHY) shares were changing hands at $180.93, advancing 3.49% during Wednesday’s premarket session, rebounding from a 9% pullback recorded over the preceding five trading days.
The upward movement followed the chipmaker’s labor union ratification of a modified profit-sharing framework, alleviating worries regarding potential manufacturing interruptions.
According to the updated arrangement, employees will receive profit-sharing compensation split evenly between cash and company equity. This adjustment supersedes the previous proposal that allocated only 40% as cash payments.
Approximately 57% of union participants cast votes in favor of the renegotiated compensation and collective bargaining package.
Securing the agreement proved challenging. Union representatives had turned down an initial offer back in August, with slightly more than 50% opposing the terms. The current resolution required an additional two weeks of negotiations.
“We thank the labour union and our employees for working with us throughout this challenging process,” SK Hynix said in a statement.
The finalized agreement eliminates any ceiling on profit-sharing compensation. SK Hynix has committed to allocating 10% of its yearly operating profit toward employee bonuses annually over the next decade.
Should the company experience financial losses, the arrangement permits SK Hynix to implement a temporary 3% reduction in employee compensation, with full salary restoration occurring once operations improve.
Shares of SK Hynix trading on South Korean exchanges also advanced 4% on Wednesday.
