SoFi Technologies shares are currently changing hands near $17.65, experiencing a recent decline of 3.55%, yet a pair of fresh analyst assessments are drawing attention to the fintech platform’s substantial growth runway.
Among Wall Street observers, Citi’s Peter Christiansen stands as the most optimistic analyst covering SOFI. His $30 valuation target translates to approximately 70% appreciation potential from where shares currently trade.
According to Christiansen, SoFi’s second-quarter performance demonstrated a definitive transition toward sustainable expansion. The financial technology company exceeded expectations across revenue, EBITDA, and asset quality metrics in its July 29 earnings disclosure.
Customer acquisition and product penetration emerged as particularly impressive data points. The cross-buy metric reached 51%, while products per member climbed to a new peak of 1.54. Asset quality trends strengthened throughout the entire loan portfolio.
Christiansen characterized SoFi as beginning a “durable operating leverage cycle,” wherein record loan origination volumes, enhanced profit margins, and superior credit performance are converging favorably.
Second Quarter Results Validate Optimistic Outlook
Adjusted quarterly revenue totaled $1.2 billion, representing a 40% year-over-year climb. Loan originations reached an all-time high of $14.8 billion. Both delinquency rates and charge-off percentages showed improvement.
Christiansen raised his 2027 revenue projection by approximately 10%, anticipating net interest margin performance to exceed his earlier forecasts.
His $30 valuation assumes a 30 to 35 times GAAP P/E multiple, underpinned by projected three-year EBITDA expansion of 35%. Emerging product offerings encompassing loan platform sales, cryptocurrency services, money movement tools, Cash Coach, and private equity fund access should contribute incremental operating efficiency gains going forward.
Net income margins are progressing from 12% toward 17% this year, although return on tangible equity remains notably beneath SoFi’s long-term objective range of 20% to 30%.
Piper Sandler Adds to Positive Sentiment
Piper Sandler recently took action on SOFI as well, launching coverage with an Overweight stance and establishing a $22 price objective. This development propelled shares up 2.13% during premarket hours.
The $22 target represents approximately 25 times SoFi’s anticipated 2027 earnings. Piper Sandler’s investment thesis centers on elevated banking penetration and multi-product attachment rates within an affluent customer demographic.
The firm observed that product count increased 43% year over year in Q2, surpassing the 35% member growth figure. This differential indicates that current members are adopting supplementary offerings beyond the initial lending product that attracted them to SoFi’s platform.
Lending operations continue to constitute 52% of total revenue. The Financial Services division contributes 39%, while Technology operations represent roughly 9%.
Piper Sandler projects 22% revenue compound annual growth and 27% adjusted EBITDA compound annual growth extending through 2028. The firm anticipates revenue of $4.89 billion in the current year and $6.14 billion in the following year, with corresponding EPS estimates of $0.63 and $0.88.
SoFi’s aggregate capital ratio registered at 18.8% at the consolidated entity level and 15.3% at the banking subsidiary, comfortably exceeding the 10.5% regulatory threshold.
Piper Sandler identified the Technology segment as a potential catalyst, suggesting that expansion could accelerate following Chime’s exit from the Galileo platform.
The broader Wall Street consensus currently registers as Hold, derived from six Buy ratings, six Hold ratings, and three Sell ratings issued within the past three months. The mean price target stands at $20.23, suggesting approximately 14.6% upside potential.
