In a surprising reversal, BitMart has announced it is pursuing a restructuring strategy mere weeks after declaring its intention to completely cease operations. However, platform users continue to lack concrete information regarding the status of their funds.
On August 21, the cryptocurrency exchange revealed it was formulating a strategy that might enable phased service resumption alongside creditor distributions. This represents a significant departure from its July 26 announcement outlining a complete operational wind-down.
The platform has engaged White & Case, a prominent international law firm, to serve in a restructuring advisory capacity. This legal team will collaborate with BitMart’s existing advisers to evaluate available pathways forward. Notably, this engagement does not indicate that BitMart has initiated bankruptcy proceedings or entered any formal court-administered restructuring process.
According to BitMart, stakeholders can expect a subsequent update no later than September 9. This represents a target date for communication rather than a confirmed deadline for any restructuring actions.
August 26 Trading Deadline Unchanged
Notwithstanding the restructuring developments, BitMart’s previously announced trading cessation date remains unchanged. The exchange is still set to terminate all spot and derivatives trading at 01:00 UTC on August 26.
Derivatives accounts have already transitioned to reduce-only status. Spot market trading has been disabled for new order placement. User registration and deposit functionality was disabled on July 26. The platform has instructed users to submit any withdrawal requests prior to 05:00 UTC on August 26.
Derivatives positions that remain open when the deadline arrives will likely be liquidated according to the platform’s mark price methodology or established settlement procedures. While BitMart indicated it would release these settlement specifications in a separate communication, this information has not yet been made available.
Withdrawal functionality continues to operate, although the exchange has cautioned that identity verification procedures, sanctions compliance checks, and wallet security reviews could extend processing timeframes.
Critical Creditor Information Still Missing
BitMart’s reference to “creditors” in its recent announcement has generated confusion among users. The platform has not clarified whether regular customers will be classified as creditors or whether they face different treatment compared to institutional or commercial partners.
BitMart has not published financial statements, proof-of-reserve documentation, or aggregate liability figures. No public creditor claims system has been established, and no court filing reference numbers have been disclosed.
Previous concerns regarding BitMart’s solvency originated from independent blockchain wallet monitoring and user-submitted reports. These sources cannot provide comprehensive insight into the exchange’s total asset holdings or outstanding obligations.
The September 9 communication is anticipated to clarify which services might resume operations, which corporate entities are participating in the restructuring, and the methodology for valuing creditor claims. Users particularly need transparency regarding distribution timelines and the fate of outstanding withdrawal requests.
The platform’s complete closure date remains set for January 31, 2027, pending any strategic revisions. As of August 23, BMX was trading near $0.061 according to CoinGecko data, maintaining its approximate 80% loss from levels recorded one month prior.
