Shares of Coca-Cola moved higher during premarket hours on Tuesday following the beverage company’s stronger-than-anticipated second-quarter performance and an upward revision to its annual projections.
The company reported comparable earnings per share of $0.97 for the three-month period ending July 3, marking a 7% increase from the same period last year and topping the Bloomberg consensus forecast of $0.93. Revenue climbed 7% to reach $13.4 billion.
Management now anticipates organic revenue growth of roughly 5% for the full 2026 fiscal year, an upgrade from its earlier guidance range of 4% to 5%. The company also elevated its comparable EPS growth expectations to a range of 9%–10%, up from the previous 8%–9% target.
Year-to-date, KO shares have rallied approximately 20%.
The FIFA World Cup, which took place from June through early this month, provided a significant boost to sales figures. Management noted that promotional activities surrounding the tournament “contributed to a portion” of the 5% volume expansion for the Coca-Cola trademark and the 8% increase for Powerade.
Zero sugar product lines and the fairlife dairy brand in the United States also played a role in supporting consumer demand throughout the quarter.
Profitability Remains Resilient Amid Rising Costs
Comparable operating margin widened to 35.6% from 34.7% in the prior-year period, exceeding Bloomberg projections of 35%. The margin expansion occurred even as the company faced higher advertising expenditures and increased input costs.
Reductions in operating expenses along with favorable foreign exchange movements helped counterbalance these headwinds.
Strategic Pricing and Packaging Adjustments
Coca-Cola has implemented targeted price increases on certain products while introducing smaller package sizes designed to attract cost-conscious American shoppers. This approach contributed positively to overall revenue performance.
Ready-to-drink tea products and the fairlife milk line also supported revenue expansion, underscoring the company’s diversification efforts across its product portfolio.
Chief Executive Officer Henrique Braun noted that the consumer landscape continues to be “dynamic,” pointing to uncertainties surrounding possible inflation pressures related to the continuing Iran conflict and fluctuations in energy costs.
Second-quarter comparable revenue totaled approximately $13.37 billion, beating analyst estimates of $13.16 billion compiled by LSEG.
