Shares of Corning rallied more than 7% to approximately $165 during Tuesday’s trading session after telecommunications giant Verizon announced a substantial multi-year supply partnership with the optical networking specialist.
The arrangement spans a five-year period beginning in 2027 and running through 2032. Through this partnership, Corning will deliver Verizon over 80 million miles of advanced optical fiber products along with comprehensive connectivity solutions.
According to Verizon, this strategic agreement aims to enhance nationwide broadband availability for consumers while simultaneously supporting the infrastructure requirements for generative AI computing systems. The telecommunications company has set ambitious goals of reaching 40 to 50 million broadband passings, encompassing both fiber-to-the-home deployments and connectivity for local businesses.
Kyle Malady, CEO of Verizon, emphasized that this partnership enables the company to “continue building the network of the future at an unprecedented scale.” Malady further noted that Verizon is constructing a unified network architecture that integrates wireless and broadband capabilities while simultaneously serving hyperscale AI providers.
Beyond consumer applications, the fiber network infrastructure will function as critical backbone connectivity linking data centers along major cross-country routes—an essential component of the ongoing AI infrastructure expansion.
Series of Landmark Partnerships
The Verizon agreement represents another milestone in what has been an exceptional year for Corning. Earlier in June, the optical communications leader revealed a multi-billion dollar partnership with Amazon focused on producing optical fiber for data center operations.
During May, Nvidia announced it would invest as much as $3.2 billion in Corning to expand optical networking production capabilities across facilities in Texas and North Carolina.
Earlier in January, Corning secured a substantial $6 billion agreement with Meta Platforms to deliver cabling infrastructure, optical fiber products, and connectivity systems for the social media giant’s data center network.
The latest Verizon partnership extends a business relationship that has spanned three decades. Products included in the agreement feature Corning’s innovative Contour Flow Cable technology, which enables installation of increased fiber capacity through existing underground conduit infrastructure.
Mike O’Day, who serves as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Corning Optical Communications, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the Verizon collaboration, noting the company’s ability to deliver cutting-edge optical solutions that connect AI data centers while simultaneously broadening residential broadband accessibility.
Stock Market Performance
Tuesday’s positive momentum extended beyond Corning to other optical networking companies. Ciena’s shares increased 1.9%, Coherent gained 2.9%, and Lumentum advanced 2%. Verizon’s stock also moved higher, rising approximately 0.8% to reach $50.46.
During late July, Corning reported second-quarter financial results that exceeded Wall Street expectations, although forward guidance fell somewhat short of analyst projections. At that time, CEO Wendell Weeks indicated the company was “entering a new phase of accelerating growth.”
This newly announced Verizon partnership appears to validate that outlook, providing Corning with guaranteed revenue visibility extending several years into the coming decade.
