The flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates has introduced Crypto.com Pay as a payment alternative for qualified residents purchasing air travel through digital channels. This integration allows passengers to utilize cryptocurrency for ticket purchases while Emirates receives settlement in the national currency. The deployment represents another step in the airline’s digital transformation and supports the emirate’s broader cashless economy objectives.
New Digital Payment Channel Now Live
Travelers booking flights priced in UAE dirhams can now select Crypto.com Pay as their preferred payment method. The functionality is restricted to eligible residents of the UAE who maintain verified accounts with Crypto.com. The platform handles the transaction processing and currency conversion before finalizing payment in AED to the airline.
Passengers using mobile devices finalize their payment directly within the Crypto.com app after selecting this option at checkout. Following authorization, the system redirects users back to the Emirates mobile application where they receive booking confirmation and their digital boarding pass. This workflow maintains payment security within the customer’s cryptocurrency wallet while preserving the airline’s standard reservation process.
For travelers using desktop computers, the payment method generates a QR code on screen after selection. Customers scan this code with their Crypto.com mobile application, authorize the payment from their digital wallet, and then return to the booking interface. The airline generates confirmation documentation and electronic tickets once Crypto.com validates the transaction.
Licensed Infrastructure Enables Compliant Transactions
The payment integration operates through Crypto.com’s regulated Dubai entity, which holds authorization under the central bank’s Stored Value Facilities regulatory framework. This licensing structure permits the platform to custody customer funds and facilitate digital transactions under government supervision. The arrangement enables cryptocurrency-based purchases while merchants receive payments in the local currency or approved dirham-backed instruments.
Under this payment architecture, Emirates avoids direct cryptocurrency holdings on its financial statements. Crypto.com handles the complete asset-to-currency conversion process and delivers the final settlement in UAE dirhams. This framework shields the airline from volatility in digital asset valuations during the booking and payment cycle.
This deployment follows a collaborative agreement announced by both organizations in July 2025 to develop a payment integration. The technical teams successfully launched the service within twelve months of the original memorandum signing. Emirates now operates a compliant cryptocurrency payment channel specifically designed for the UAE domestic market.
Initiative Advances National Digital Economy Vision
The payment system introduction supports the Cashless Strategy outlined in Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda. Government planners have established a target to transition 90% of both public and private sector monetary transactions to digital formats by late 2026. Emirates has collaborated with Dubai Finance on multiple initiatives to accelerate digital payment infrastructure adoption.
Crypto.com previously established a separate partnership with Dubai Finance to facilitate digital payments for specific government services. The airline integration expands the company’s payment processing capabilities into a prominent travel booking platform. This launch also connects regulated cryptocurrency transactions with Dubai’s key tourism and aviation industries.
Other carriers in the region have experimented with comparable payment solutions as digital finance infrastructure matures. Air Arabia introduced acceptance of AE Coin, a dirham-pegged stablecoin, for flight reservations during May 2025. Emirates has not disclosed any intentions to expand Crypto.com Pay availability beyond currently eligible UAE residents.
