The enhanced Digital Asset Haven platform features a newly developed messaging adapter providing connectivity to Swift’s distributed ledger infrastructure. Swift maintains a global network encompassing 12,500 financial organizations spanning over 200 countries and territories.
This adapter enables financial organizations to process tokenized deposit operations utilizing ISO 20022 messaging protocols—the internationally recognized standard currently employed for cross-border financial communications. This approach allows banking institutions to leverage existing compliance and payment infrastructure rather than developing blockchain-specific operational processes.
Major Financial Institutions Support Swift’s Ledger Initiative
Swift unveiled its ledger solution at the Sibos 2025 conference, achieving operational status within a nine-month development cycle. The project received collaboration from more than 40 financial services organizations during its development phase.
The platform commenced operations in July with an initial pilot cohort of 17 banking institutions. Participating organizations include HSBC, Citi, BNP Paribas, UBS, and Standard Chartered.
Two major banks have progressed beyond the testing phase. HSBC and Standard Chartered successfully executed the inaugural live international transaction using the ledger infrastructure in August.
According to IBM, financial institutions participating in the pilot program have utilized Digital Asset Haven for testing tokenized deposit operations on Swift’s distributed ledger.
Self-Hosted Deployment Addresses Data Sovereignty Requirements
In addition to the Swift integration, IBM rolled out a beta on-premises deployment alternative for Digital Asset Haven. This option enables banking institutions to operate the platform within their proprietary data center environments instead of relying on public cloud services.
The self-hosted version operates on IBM Z and LinuxONE hardware platforms. It incorporates IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules, with IBM claiming configurations achieve 99.999999% availability according to company testing data.
This deployment option maintains architectural consistency, APIs, and operational workflows with IBM’s current SaaS and hybrid deployment models. This uniformity should facilitate seamless transitions between deployment configurations for existing platform users.
Digital Asset Haven debuted in October 2025 offering exclusively SaaS and hybrid deployment configurations. Thursday’s announcement addresses requirements from organizations seeking digital asset capabilities while maintaining complete data sovereignty without public cloud dependencies.
Tom McPherson, general manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE, positioned the enhancement within broader industry transformation. “The financial services industry is entering a new era where tokenized and traditional assets will need to move side by side,” he said.
IBM referenced statistics from J.P. Morgan Payments indicating that 93% of financial services firms are actively upgrading their payment processing systems. This industry-wide modernization trend provides context for IBM’s latest platform enhancements.
Organizations seeking access to the on-premises beta deployment can register for a waiting list. IBM has not disclosed a specific timeframe for transitioning the on-premises configuration from beta testing to general commercial availability.
