Metaplanet has approved a new subsidiary based in Hong Kong. The company plans to put $1 million in starting capital into the unit.
The new business is called Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited. Metaplanet expects to officially set it up during September 2026.
The subsidiary will invest in Bitcoin, stocks, preferred securities, credit products and other liquid assets. It will use both client money and Metaplanet’s own funds.
Three directors will run the new company at first. They are Simon Gerovich, Darren Winia and Kelvin Lee.
What The Hong Kong Unit Will Do
The Hong Kong office is meant to work during Asian trading hours. This covers times when U.S. markets are closed.
Its main jobs will include buying and selling assets, watching market conditions and managing risk. Metaplanet says this fits into its larger plan called Project Nova.
Project Nova is Metaplanet’s effort to build financial services around its Bitcoin holdings. This includes credit products and investment structures tied to Bitcoin.
The Hong Kong unit will work with Metaplanet’s Miami office. That office opened in March 2026 and acts as the group’s main hub for institutional investing.
Miami handles the central strategy. Hong Kong will provide support and trading coverage from Asia.
Metaplanet owns 100% of the new Hong Kong company. The filing did not say when the unit would start managing outside client money.
It also did not name any specific fund or product tied to the new office. No Hong Kong regulatory license was mentioned in the announcement either.
Other Recent Moves By Metaplanet
Metaplanet has been active in other markets this year. In June, the company agreed to buy Japanese brokerage Siiibo Securities for 2.1 billion yen.
That deal closed in July. The brokerage was renamed Metaplanet Securities and holds a licensed trading registration in Japan.
Metaplanet has also been working with JPYC and Progmat to study Bitcoin backed credit products. No product has launched yet, and the companies said no final terms have been set.
In August, Metaplanet announced a separate deal involving Nasdaq listed Super League Enterprise. That company plans to change its name to Superplanet and use the ticker SUPA.
Under the plan, Metaplanet would place 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million into Superplanet. Metaplanet would hold a 95.7% stake before certain warrants are counted.
Gerovich called Superplanet the company’s path into U.S. capital markets. The deal includes a five year lockup on shares Metaplanet would receive.
Metaplanet currently holds 43,000 BTC in its treasury. That total followed a purchase of 2,823 BTC during the second quarter of the year.
In August, 5,014 BTC moved between Metaplanet’s own custodial wallets. Gerovich confirmed no coins were sold and said holdings stayed at 43,000 BTC.
Metaplanet said the new Hong Kong subsidiary should have a small effect on its overall 2026 results. The company said it will share more details if that changes.
