Micron Technology (MU) shares advanced nearly 2% to $942.06 during Thursday’s premarket session, propelled by positive developments from India and an overall uptick in market sentiment. Technology stocks received support from Nasdaq futures climbing 1.05% while S&P 500 futures advanced 0.82%.
The upward movement follows the official launch of Micron’s $2.75 billion semiconductor assembly and testing complex in Sanand, Gujarat. The facility has initiated commercial operations and begun distributing completed DRAM and NAND memory solutions to clients across the globe.
According to CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, the Sanand operation already possesses sufficient capacity to fulfill the memory requirements of India’s complete laptop industry. The company has delivered its inaugural India-manufactured memory modules to Dell Technologies, destined for laptops produced domestically in India.
The Gujarat facility does not manufacture wafers directly. Rather, it receives sophisticated DRAM and NAND wafers from Micron’s international production ecosystem and transforms them into complete memory and storage solutions. When fully operational, the initial phase will encompass over 500,000 square feet of cleanroom infrastructure.
The company anticipates assembling and testing tens of millions of chips at this location throughout the current year. This volume is projected to expand to hundreds of millions by 2027.
Advanced Memory Solution Addresses AI Requirements
Micron’s Indian expansion aligns with its comprehensive AI memory strategy. In mid-September, the chipmaker unveiled a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM capable of achieving speeds reaching 9,200 MT/s. Both Advanced Micro Devices and Intel are presently validating this module. Mass production is anticipated to launch in the latter half of 2027.
Mehrotra articulated the market transformation succinctly: “The world is going to need memory that is faster, denser, and far more efficient at power. And Micron builds that memory.”
Micron maintains a direct workforce exceeding 7,000 employees in India. Engineering teams based in Bangalore and Hyderabad have generated more than 3,700 patents, innovations and technical disclosures.
Financial Results Expected September 30
The upcoming significant milestone for MU is its fourth quarter FY26 financial announcement scheduled for September 30. Wall Street forecasts EPS around $31.30, representing substantial growth from $3.03 during the comparable period last year. Revenue projections stand at $50.78 billion, versus $11.31 billion in the prior year quarter.
Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider continues with a Hold recommendation and $1,100 price objective. He anticipates quarterly revenue of $51.9 billion, approximately 3% above consensus estimates, alongside EPS of $32.54 and gross margin of 87.3%.
Looking toward Q1 FY27, Schneider projects low-teens sequential revenue expansion, supported by favorable product mix and pricing improvements.
From a technical perspective, MU trades 48.8% above its 200-day moving average of $632.56. The equity encounters resistance approaching $1,012, while support emerges around $887.50. The RSI registers 46.88, indicating neutral short-term momentum.
Analyst sentiment remains overwhelmingly positive with a Strong Buy consensus on MU, featuring 29 Buy recommendations and only one Hold. The average analyst price target of approximately $1,521 suggests roughly 69% upside potential. Year-to-date, MU stock has surged 225%.
Mizuho reaffirmed an Outperform rating in August with a $1,300 target. New Street Research elevated its stance to Buy with a $1,250 objective. Citigroup maintained its Buy recommendation with a $1,150 price forecast.
