Shares of Rocket Lab (RKLB) began Monday’s session at $64.26, representing an approximate 8% decline from the beginning of the year. The aerospace company has experienced a steep 49% correction over the last three months, trading substantially below its 12-month peak of $151.00.
However, the recent price decline hasn’t shaken analyst confidence. The Street maintains a Strong Buy rating on RKLB, supported by 13 Buy recommendations and four Hold ratings. With an average analyst price target sitting at $108.88, the stock carries an implied upside of approximately 69%.
Among recent updates, Cantor Fitzgerald’s Andres Sheppard elevated his price objective to $122 from $96 while reiterating a Buy stance. Sheppard highlighted robust second-quarter revenue performance and the company’s reassurance that its Neutron rocket program continues to progress according to plan for a debut launch in the latter part of this year.
Sheppard characterized Rocket Lab’s proposed Iridium merger as “transformational,” projecting the combined entity will achieve double the annual revenue following transaction completion.
Neutron Program Serves as Primary Growth Driver
The Neutron rocket platform represents the cornerstone of Rocket Lab‘s expansion strategy. This reusable medium-lift launch system is designed to position the company in a substantially broader market segment compared to its existing Electron vehicle.
Nevertheless, execution risk remains present. Industry reports indicate the inaugural Neutron launch might be postponed until 2027, potentially delaying significant revenue generation. Bank of America’s Ronald Epstein identified the development schedule as “a key aspect to watch,” acknowledging that while a Q4 2026 demonstration mission remains feasible, the timeline presents challenges.
Epstein revised his price objective to $110 from $115, adjusting for increased share dilution, while maintaining his Buy recommendation. He emphasized Rocket Lab’s “strong positioning across launch and space systems capabilities” alongside the company’s $2.36 billion contract backlog, encompassing over 90 scheduled launches.
Institutional Investors Increase Positions
From an institutional perspective, the Saudi Central Bank substantially expanded its RKLB investment during Q2, purchasing an additional 18,670 shares to reach a total position of 36,415 shares, representing approximately $3.7 million in value. Meanwhile, ARK Invest accumulated more than 705,000 shares through two separate recent transactions.
Institutional investors and hedge funds collectively control 71.78% of outstanding RKLB shares.
This institutional accumulation stands in contrast to insider activity. CFO Adam Spice divested 140,157 shares on September 2nd at an average price of $62.63, generating proceeds of approximately $8.78 million. The sale was conducted pursuant to a pre-established Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangement.
During the second quarter, Rocket Lab delivered revenue of $234.07 million, surpassing analyst expectations of $231.62 million. However, EPS of -$0.08 fell short of the -$0.06 consensus forecast. The company continues to operate at a loss, with full-year EPS projections at -$0.20.
A potentially favorable development emerged last week when Planet Labs highlighted increasing capacity constraints in SpaceX’s rideshare program, which may redirect additional customers to competing launch service providers such as Rocket Lab.
The company recently completed its 94th successful orbital mission and maintains a manifest of 16 confirmed launches extending through 2030.
