Despite this rebound, the stock remains approximately 40% below its peak closing price of $211.39 achieved on June 16, shortly after its historic IPO that priced shares at $135.
SpaceX announced it will release its first quarterly earnings report on Aug. 4, following its groundbreaking $85.7 billion public offering — the biggest in market history.
This announcement carries significant implications beyond quarterly results. The earnings date activates the company’s tiered lock-up release schedule, permitting early investors and employees to liquidate up to 20% of their restricted holdings — potentially totaling 911.5 million shares — beginning Aug. 6.
A further 10% of restricted shares could become available for sale if the stock maintains a closing price at least 30% above the IPO level for five out of ten trading sessions prior to the earnings announcement.
Bearish traders have intensified their positions, with short interest recently reaching approximately one-third of the company’s publicly traded shares. Elon Musk responded on Monday via X, stating that “the survival probability of firms who maintain a significant short position in SpaceX over time is very low.”
Starship Test Flight Rescheduled for Thursday
The 13th Starship test mission has been rescheduled for July 23, following last week’s postponement caused by an engine ignition malfunction.
“Some of the engines didn’t start, triggering an automatic launch abort,” Musk said. SpaceX said it modified the rocket’s propulsion system to fix the issue.
Starship represents the largest rocket system ever constructed or launched. According to SpaceX, the vehicle could reduce orbital launch costs by as much as 90%, a capability that supports the company’s $1.6 trillion market valuation and its planned orbital artificial intelligence operations.
The launch system also plays a crucial role in SpaceX’s Starlink broadband constellation growth and its contracts with NASA’s Artemis program, designed to land astronauts on the Moon by 2028.
Tuesday evening saw SpaceX successfully launch the Northrop Grumman MRV-MEP payload from Cape Canaveral. This mission deploys a robotic spacecraft designed for satellite servicing and operational life extension in geosynchronous orbit.
Falcon 9 Booster Concludes Mission History
Tuesday’s mission also represented the 32nd — and ultimate — flight for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster utilized in the launch.
SpaceX indicated the booster had reached its operational ceiling due to the additional performance demands necessary to achieve geosynchronous transfer orbit.
Musk’s personal wealth was estimated at approximately $786 billion as of Monday, declining from over $1 trillion when the company went public on June 12, per Forbes data.
SpaceX shares finished Tuesday’s trading session at $123.54.
